SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA (July 30, 2022) – One person was injured in a San Mateo hit-and-run collision involving a stolen vehicle by Alameda de las Pulgas and Fairfax Avenue.

San Mateo police officials are saying that the collision took place around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. A 19-year-old driver was involved in a hit-and-run collision under unclear conditions.

The impact sent another vehicle through a fence. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. Police arrested the driver of the stolen vehicle who tried to flee on foot.

A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In San Mateo Car Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in hit-and-run collisions. According to Value Penguin, “The number of Golden State crashes accounted for 17% of the U.S. total, with 2,948 crashes causing 3,056 deaths. Texas and Florida also logged more than 1,000 fatal hit-and-runs (1,965 and 1,739, respectively), with each state’s fatality count rising over the 10 years.” There are a number of steps that should be taken after any collision.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.

Any person that is injured due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, insurance companies will often fight extremely hard to deny liability for a collision. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
