Liability For Petaluma Car Accidents
Speeding remains one of the most common causes of pedestrian accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2020, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” There are a number of steps that drivers should take to avoid hitting pedestrians.
- Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
- Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
- Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
If a driver fails to exercise due care and hits a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are totally preventable. The family of any person that is killed in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
