Business Owner Shyral King Critically Injured In Victorville Home Explosion in the 14900 block of Adalane Court
VICTORVILLE, CALIFORNIA (July 4, 2022) – A woman identified as Shyral King was critically injured in a Victorville home explosion at a home on Adalane Court.
San Bernardino County officials are saying that the accident took place around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday. A pre-dawn explosion and fire completely leveled a home occupied by Shyral King.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the explosion and managed to put out the subsequent fire. Shyral King was airlifted to a hospital in Colton and is currently recovering from severe burns.
An employee of Southwest Gas was called to the scene and turned off the gas to the area. It remains unclear if gas may have been a contributing factor to the blast.
The victim owns her own beauty and fashion line and is said to be 25-years-old. A full investigation into what may have caused the blast remains ongoing at this time.
Liability In Victorville Home Explosion Accidents
Home explosions may seem like freak occurrences. But they are far more common than many people may realize. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), “An estimated average of 4,200 home structure fires per year started with the ignition of natural gas. These fires caused an average of 40 deaths per year.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a home explosion accident.
- Appliances such as gas furnaces or stoves could leak natural gas due to poorly connected valves.
- Worn or rusting gas lines could cause gas to leak and trigger an explosion.
- Defective equipment including gas grills could potentially contribute to an explosion.
- Improperly insulated electrical lines could potentially contribute to an explosion.
Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous liable parties for a home explosion. The company that installed a home appliance could potentially be liable for an explosion. Gas appliances need to be properly installed so they do not leak overtime. A number of gas leaks have been caused by installers that fitted an appliance with an improperly fitting valve. Or, potentially, a connecting valve may come loose over time because it was inadequately secured.
If an occupied home was being rented, the owner of the property could potentially be held at fault. Pursuant to California Civil Code 1714, everyone is responsible for maintaining their property in a reasonably safe condition. They could be liable for an injury occasioned by want of ordinary care in the management of his or her property. When a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition of their property, they must take action to correct the dangerous condition.
A gas company like Southwest Gas or SoCalGas could potentially be liable for a natural gas explosion. Gas companies could be liable for an explosion if it was due to the negligent maintenance of their equipment. They could also be liable for the negligent actions of their employees. Consider, for example, the case of Diao v. S. Cal. Gas Co. Pengxuan Diao was critically injured from a natural gas explosion after a SoCalGas employee opened a gas valve and failed to close it before leaving. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any explosion accident.
- Photos of the accident site should be taken.
- Maintenance records for the property should be examined.
- A forensic analysis of the site should be performed.
- Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
Concussive force injuries and burn injuries are among the most painful and costly types of injuries that a person can endure. Survivors will often need to undergo multiple skin graft surgeries and may be left with a lifetime of pain. Any person that is injured in a home explosion accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A burn injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
