Gary Boeldt Killed In Ontario DUI Car Accident On Interstate 15 By Jurupa Street

ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA (May 21, 2022)  – A man identified as Gary Boeldt has died in a car accident with a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 15 by the Jurupa Street exit.

San Bernardino County officers are saying that the accident took place not long after midnight on March 31. The owner of a brewery in Riverside was driving a white Audi on the northbound lanes of the freeway.

He struck a gray BMW SUV driven by Gary Boeldt causing it to roll multiple times. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident in order to help the victim.

Despite life-saving measures, Gary Boeldt died from injuries he suffered in the crash. The driver of the Audi and owner of the Riverside brewery was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

This is apparently the fourth DUI arrest on his record. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time. The brewery of the DUI suspect had to close for several days after numerous threats to the business.

Liability In Ontario DUI Car Accidents

Driver intoxication is one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, about 32 people are killed every day in the United States in crashes that involved  a drunk driver. That’s roughly one person every 45 minutes. By the time a person is arrested for DUI they’ve often driven intoxicated dozens of times. Even small amounts of alcohol below the legal limit can dramatically reduce a person’s ability to drive safely.

  • Alcohol reduces a person’s ability to focus their eyes.
  • Alcohol reduces a person’s fine motor control.
  • Alcohol reduces a person’s ability to think clearly.
  • Alcohol reduces a person’s ability to see clearly and track objects.

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 23152, it is unlawful for a person to operate a motor vehicle if they have a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% or higher. What many drivers do not realize is that alcohol is not the only substance that can impair them. They can also become impaired by prescriptions or over-the-counter medications. If a driver causes an accident while intoxicated, they can face criminal and civil sanctions.

If the employee of a business was involved in an accident, the company that they work for could be held at fault. In general, companies are liable for the wrongful acts of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, an at fault driver may have been delivering packages. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any DUI car accident.

  • The police report for the accident should be reviewed.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • The employment status of the drunk driver should be determined.

The family of any victim that died in an accident with a drunk driver may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral costs. Potential beneficiaries will typically include a victim’s spouse, children, siblings or parents. It is extremely important that evidence is properly preserved after any accident. Insurance companies will often do everything in their power to deny any responsibility if their client injures or kills someone.
