Amazon Delivery Woman Injured In Highland Pit Bull Dog Attack

HIGHLAND, CALIFORNIA (June 25, 2022) – A delivery driver for Amazon was injured in a pit bull dog attack while delivering packages to home on Lillian Lane.

San Bernardino County police officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The 52-year-old woman was delivering packages when she went through the gate of a home.

It was at that point that she was viciously attacked by a pit bull. The dog’s owner was eventually able to pull the dog off of the woman.

She was transported to the Loma Linda University hospital with major injuries. San Bernardino County Animal Control removed the pit bull from the home.

A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Highland Dog Attacks

Millions of people are injured in dog attacks every year. According to the Journalists Resource, “Roughly 4.4 million people a year are bitten by a dog in the United States, resulting in an estimated 885,000 injuries that require medical attention, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). About half of these injuries are sustained by children.” Victims of dog attacks tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Organ damage
  • Infections

Dog owners in California must do everything in their power to prevent others from being attacked by their animal. They are held strictly liable in the event their dog attacks someone under California Civil Code 3342. In order for strict liability to apply, the victim of the attack must have been lawfully in a public or private place, including the residence of the owner of the dog. It does not matter whether the owner had any knowledge of the dog’s former viciousness. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any dog attack.

  • The owner of the dog should be determined.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • A thorough, independent investigation should be conducted.

Any person that is injured in a dog attack may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, many dog owners will try to evade liability for dog attacks. A dog bite injury attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
