Liability For Marysville Bicycle Accidents

Bicyclists are uniquely vulnerable in car accidents. They are more likely to be overlooked by drivers and lack the protection of enclosed vehicles. According to the IIHS, “Each year about 2 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths are bicyclists. Although child bicyclist deaths have declined over the years, deaths among bicyclists age 20 and older have almost quadrupled since 1975.” Victims of bicycle accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Every driver has a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting bicyclists. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous turns in front of bicyclists. The family of any person that is killed due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that can come with the sudden loss of a loved one.
