Two Pedestrians Injured In Car Accident With Passenger Van At Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

Two Pedestrians Injured In Van Accident At Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (September 5, 2022) – Two pedestrians were injured in a car accident involving a passenger van at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials are saying that the accident took place around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Two pedestrians were on the lower level near Terminal 1 when they were hit by a passenger van.

The van kept going after the accident and hit a building before coming to a stop. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims.

One pedestrian declined treatment and the second pedestrian was taken to the hospital. A full investigation into the LAX pedestrian accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Los Angeles Pedestrian Accidents

Los Angeles County has one of the highest instances of pedestrian accidents in all of California. According to LAist, over 100 pedestrians are killed by drivers in Los Angeles every year. Many of these accidents happen along a select number of roads and intersections. There are a number of factors that can make airports like LAX particularly dangerous for pedestrians.

  • Tens of thousands of pedestrians cross airports every day. These pedestrians must constantly interact with and cross the path of vehicles.
  • Parking lots and terminal drop offs tend to lack traffic control devices to help keep pedestrians safe.
  • Many drivers are distracted as they head to the airport. They might also be rushing to make their flight.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 21950, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.” If a driver fails to reduce their speed and hits a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.

If the driver of a passenger van was working at the time of a collision, the company that they worked for could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful acts of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, the driver of a van may have been transporting passengers when they hit someone. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Any person that is injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Unfortunately, drivers will often fight hard to deny responsibility for any collision. A Los Angeles pedestrian accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
