Two Pedestrians Injured In City of Industry Hit-And-Run Car Accident By Azusa Avenue and Gemini Street

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CALIFORNIA (October 1, 2022) – Two pedestrians were injured in a City of Industry hit-and-run car accident by the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Gemini Street.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the accident took place on Wednesday. A grandmother was crossing the street with her grandchild when both were violently hit by a vehicle.

That driver fled the scene but was later captured and taken to jail. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident in order to help the two victims.

Both were taken to the hospital and expected to recover.

Liability In City of Industry Car Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or injured every year in hit-and-run car accidents. According to the AAA Foundation, “There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds. The 2,049 fatalities that resulted from hit-and-run crashes in 2016 were the highest number ever recorded (NHTSA, 2017).” There are a number of factors that could contribute to hit-and-run collisions including:

  • Speeding
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather
  • Driver fatigue

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 21950, the driver of any vehicle shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian that is crossing the street in a marked or unmarked crosswalk. The driver of any vehicle that flees the scene of an injury collision may face criminal as well as civil liability. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any hit-and-run collision.

  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Fragments of the fleeing vehicle should be examined.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.

Any person that is injured in a pedestrian accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A pedestrian accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. It is therefore important to act quickly.
