Liability For Long Beach Hit-And-Run Car Accidents

Los Angeles County has one of the highest instances of pedestrian collisions in the United States. According to the Los Angeles Times, “The city’s streets are increasingly dangerous for pedestrians in particular, with 486 being severely injured by motorists — a 35% increase over 2020. Pedestrian deaths rose 6% to 128.” There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.

  • Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Drivers should check their blind spots before turns.
  • Drivers should constantly scan the road ahead of them for hazards.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians. It is illegal to flee the scene of any collision that results in bodily injury or death. When a driver flees the scene of an injury collision, they could face civil or criminal liability for their actions. If the driver of a pickup truck was working at the time of a collision, the company that they were working for could face liability. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any hit-and-run crash.

  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.

The family of any person that is killed due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. However, it is common for drivers to deny liability for any collision. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
