LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (August 10, 2022) – Reynold Lester and Asherey Ryan died in a Windsor Hills, Los Angeles collision by La Brea Avenue and Sepulveda Avenue.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the accident took place around 1:30  p.m. on Friday. Asherey Ryan was traveling with her fiancé Reynold Lester and infant son to a doctor’s appointment. She was checking on the health of her unborn baby.

Liability In Los Angeles Car Accidents

Speeding remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2020, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” There are many other factors that could potentially contribute to a car accident.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 21453, the driver of any vehicle approaching a red light must stop and continue to yield the right of way until an indication to proceed is shown. Any driver that hits another vehicle after going through a red light may be held liable for the collision under the doctrine of negligence per se. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any collision.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • A thorough, independent investigation should be conducted.

The family of any victim that died in a collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral expenses. Sadly, at-fault drivers will often fight hard to deny responsibility for any collision. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
