Multiple People Injured In Panorama City Gas Station Accident On Roscoe Boulevard
PANORAMA CITY, CALIFORNIA (July 27, 2022) – Eleven people were injured in a car accident at a Panorama City gas station along Roscoe Boulevard after a pickup truck hit a fuel pump.
Los Angeles County police officials are saying that the collision took place around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. A Ford pickup truck was towing a concrete pumping trailer when it crashed into three vehicles and knocked over a fuel pump.
The force of the impact caused the fuel pump to begin leaking fluid. Eventually the source of the leak was stopped and paramedics were called to the gas station.
Eleven people, 5 of which were children, sustained injuries in the crash. A total of 4 people declined medical attention and 7 people were taken to nearby hospitals.
It is not clear whether the driver of the pickup truck will face any charges following the crash.
Liability In Panorama City Car Accidents
Gas stations can be particularly hazardous places for pedestrians and people in passenger vehicles. They do not have clearly set pathways for pedestrians and cars. Everyone is expected to be alert and paying attention to their surroundings, but this does not always happen. There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to gas station accidents.
- Driver distraction
- Inclement weather
- Pedal confusion
- Drunk driving
- Speeding
Pedal confusion occurs when a driver mistakes the accelerator for the brakes. Accidents involving vehicles driving into buildings or fixed objects often involve drivers who are experiencing pedal confusion. Pedal confusion is more likely to occur when drivers are elderly or potentially distracted. Any driver that accelerated into another vehicle will typically be held at fault in the event of a collision. Though, some cases of unintended acceleration occur due to mechanical malfunctions.
Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a collision could extend beyond an at fault driver. If the driver of a pickup truck was working for a business, their employer could be held at fault. Companies are typically vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their employees working within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, a driver may have been transporting materials needed for some project. There are many steps that should be taken after any collision.
- The purpose of a pickup truck driver’s ride should be determined.
- Medical records should be preserved.
- Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
- The vehicle of the at fault driver should be inspected.
- A thorough, independent investigation should be conducted.
Commercial trucks will typically need to carry at least $750,000 worth of liability coverage. Any person that is injured in a collision may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A pedestrian accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
