Liability In El Cajon Car Accidents
Scooter riders lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be overlooked. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, “There were more than 190,000 emergency room (ED) visits due to all micromobility products from 2017 through 2020. ED visits had a steady 70% increase from 34,000 (2017), 44,000 (2018), 54,800 (2019) to 57,800 (2020).” Victims of scooter accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting bicyclists. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a scooter rider, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The company that operated a pickup truck could also potentially be held at fault. Family members of any person killed in a collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. A scooter accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
