Liability For Bryan Bicycle Accidents

Left turns are one of the most dangerous maneuvers that most drivers can make. This is party why companies like UPS eliminate as many left turns as possible from the routes that their drivers take. In fact, a recent study by the NHTSA showed that 22% of crashes at intersections involved a driver making a left turn. This compares to just 1.2% for drivers making right turns. There are many other factors that could potentially contribute to a car accident.

  • Speeding
  • Poor road conditions
  • Dimly lit intersections
  • Driver fatigue

All drivers must check their blind spots and exercise due care before attempting to make any left turn. Pursuant to Texas Transportation Code § 545.152, the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left in the roadway must first yield the right of way to all traffic traveling from the opposite direction that is close enough so as to pose a hazard. If a driver makes an unprotected left turn in front of another vehicle, they will typically be held at fault in the event of a collision. There are many steps that should be taken after any collision.

  • Surveillance footage of the intersection where a crash took place should be sought.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • The police report for the collision should be reviewed.

The vast majority of car accidents are preventable and involve some amount of driver error. Family members of any person killed in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help with many of the unexpected expenses that come with the sudden loss of a loved one. Unfortunately, it is common for drivers to deny liability for fatal collisions.
