Liability For Sweeny Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcyclists are uniquely vulnerable on our roadways. They lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be overlooked. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 14% of all traffic fatalities, 18% of all occupant fatalities, and 4% of all occupant injuries in 2020.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a motorcycle accident.
- Speeding
- Distracted driving
- Inclement weather
- Poor road conditions
Left turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers that drivers can make. Drivers are nearly 10 times more likely to be involved in a crash while making a left turn as opposed to making a right turn. Pursuant to Texas Transportation Code § 545.152, the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left in the roadway must first yield the right of way to all traffic traveling from the opposite direction that is close enough so as to pose a hazard. If a driver fails to yield the right of way before making a left turn, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries inclding:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Lacerations
- Organ damage
Even after a person’s physical injuries have healed, accident victims often suffer from long-term PTSD. Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of another driver may be able to seek some measure of justice through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your legal options are.
