Liability For Lamont Semi-Truck Accidents
Semi-trucks are much more difficult to control than smaller vehicles. There are a number of factors that could contribute to a semi-truck accident. According to the FMCSA, “Fatigue, drinking alcohol, and speeding are major factors in motor vehicle crashes overall. Although their presence does not always result in a crash, these three factors, as well as other driver, vehicle, and environmental factors, can increase the risk that a crash will occur. ” Semi-truck drivers should take many steps to avoid collisions.
- Truck drivers should take periodic brakes during their shifts.
- Truck drivers should check their blind spots before turning.
- Truck drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them.
All truck drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Many truck accidents are due to truck drivers that make dangerous left turns. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 21801, the driver of a vehicle intending to turn left must first yield the right of way to all traffic approaching from the opposite direction that is close enough to pose a hazard. If a truck driver makes an unsafe left turn in front of a motorcyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of semi-truck accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
It can be difficult to know what to do after a truck accident. But it is important to remember that accident victims do have rights. The family of any person that is killed in a truck accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that come with the sudden loss of a loved one. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
