Four People Injured In Rancho Cordova Semi-Truck Accident By Prarie City Road and White Rock Road

RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIFORNIA (November 17, 2022) – At least four people were injured in a Rancho Cordova semi-truck accident by Prarie City Road and White Rock Road.

Rancho Cordova officials are saying that the collision took place on Thursday. A van and a big rig truck were involved in a collision under uncertain conditions.

The force of the impact caused the truck to flip onto its side and land partially on the van. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help all of the victims.

The driver of the van was airlifted to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. A toddler in the van also sustained injuries as did two people in the big rig.

Liability For Rancho Cordova Semi-Truck Accidents

A fully loaded semi-truck can weigh as much as 80,000 lbs. They are much more difficult to drive than a passenger vehicle and much more dangerous as well. According to the IIHS, “Truck braking capability can be a factor in truck crashes. Loaded tractor-trailers require 20-40 percent more distance than cars to stop, and the discrepancy is greater on wet and slippery roads or with poorly maintained brakes.” There are a number of steps that truck companies can take in order to prevent collisions.

  • Truck companies should only hire drivers with a CDL and clean driving record.
  • Truck companies should ensure that their fleet is well maintained.
  • Truck companies should consider equipping their vehicles with safety features like forward collision avoidance systems.

All truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Semi-trucks have large blind spots and many collisions are due to truck drivers that make dangerous lane changes. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 22107, no person shall turn a motor vehicle from a direct course either left or right upon a roadway unless such a movement can be made with reasonable safety. There are many steps that should be taken after any semi-truck accident.

  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • A thorough, independent investigation should be conducted.

The FMCSA requires commercial trucks to typically carry between $750,000 – $5,000,000 worth of liability coverage. Any person that is injured in a semi-truck accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
