Soon Han Killed In Baldy Mesa Dog Attack By Vinton Street and Mesa Road

BALDY MESA, CALIFORNIA (October 10, 2022) – A woman identified as Soon Han has died after being attacked by two dogs in Baldy Mesa near Vinton Street and Mesa Road.

San Bernardino County officials are saying that the attack took place around 11:09 a.m. on Friday October 7. Soon Han was walking in her neighborhood when she was attacked by two Dogo Argentino dogs.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the attack in order to help the woman. Sadly, Soon Han was pronounced dead at the scene.

Animal control confiscated both dogs as an investigation continues. Dogo Argentinos are a very large, muscular breed of dog that were primarily created for big-game hunting. They can be particularly dangerous to strangers if they are not socialized well when they are young.

Liability For Baldy Mesa Dog Attacks

Dog attacks are one of the leading causes of injury in the United States. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, “More than 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year in the United States, and more than 800,000 receive medical attention for dog bites, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). At least half of those bitten are children.” There are a number of steps that dog owners should take in order to prevent dog attacks.

  • Dogs should be walked on a leash in public areas.
  • Dogs should be properly secured at the owner’s residence.
  • Dogs should be well socialized when they are young.
  • Dog owners should warn visitors about their dogs with signs or other measures.

Dog owners in California are held strictly liable if their animal attacks someone. Pursuant to California Civil Code 3342, the owner of a dog is liable for the damages of any person who is bitten by a dog while that person is in a public or private place. This includes the home of the owner of the dog. It does not matter whether the owner of the dog that attacked someone was aware of the dog’s vicious nature. Nor does it matter if the dog ever previously attacked someone. Victims of dog attacks tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Lacerations
  • Infections
  • Organ damage
  • Tissue damage

The family of any person that is killed in a dog attack may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the unexpected expenses that can come with the sudden loss of a loved one. Unfortunately, dog owners will often fight extremely hard to deny liability when their animal attacks someone. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
