Three People Injured In Baldwin Park Bus Accident By Downing Avenue and Ramona Boulevard

BALDWIN PARK, CALIFORNIA (May 21, 2022) – Three people were injured in a Baldwin Park bus accident near the intersection of Downing Avenue and Ramona Boulevard.

Los Angeles County police officials are saying that the accident took place on Friday evening. Multiple vehicles and a bus were involved in a collision under unclear conditions.

The force of the impact shattered the front window of the bus. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help all of the victims.

A total of three people were injured and one person was seriously injured. The intersection where the Baldwin Park bus accident took place was closed for several hours while an investigation took place. This crash comes just a few weeks after two people were injured in a Corning school bus crash.

Liability In Los Angeles County Bus Accidents

Bus companies are considered common carriers under the law and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. According to the Judicial Council of California Civil Jury Instructions, “Common carriers must carry passengers [or property] safely. Common carriers must use the highest care and the vigilance of a very cautious person. They must do all that human care, vigilance, and foresight reasonably can do under the circumstances to avoid harm to passengers[or property].” There are a number of steps that a bus company can take in order to avoid collisions.

  • Bus drivers should be well trained.
  • Buses can be equipped with forward collision avoidance systems.
  • Bus drivers should be trained to check their blind spots before they make turns.

All bus drivers must exercise due care to avoid collisions. A large portion of bus accidents occur when bus drivers make dangerous left turns. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left must first yield the right of way to any vehicle close enough so as to pose a hazard. If a bus driver makes a dangerous turn prior to a collision, they could be held liable for the accident. Their employer could also be held vicariously liable for the collision. Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Organ damage

The FMCSA requires commercial buses that can carry 16 or more passengers to have at least $5,000,000 worth of liability coverage. Any person that is injured in a bus accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A bus accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations to keep in mind. Failing to act within the statute of limitations may result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
