DIXON, CALIFORNIA (May 12, 2022) – Roberto Saldana and Willie Reyes were among five people injured in a Dixon pickup truck accident on Interstate 80 by Pedrick Road.
Solano County police officials are saying that the collision took place around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Roberto Saldana and Willie Reyes were passengers in a Ford F-450 truck that was struck from behind by a Ford F-650 super heavy duty truck.
The Ford F-650 truck then hit a guardrail and semi-truck after the initial accident. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help all of the victims.
Roberto Saldana, Willie Reyes and two other people in the Ford F-450 truck were treated for their injuries. The CHP is investigating to determine if driver distraction or drugs may have played a role in the crash.
Liability In Dixon Truck Accidents
Far too many people are killed or seriously injured in truck accidents every year. According to the NHTSA, “In 2018 there were 4,951 people killed and an estimated 151,000 people injured in crashes involving large trucks. In the United States, an estimated 531,000 large trucks were involved in police-reported traffic crashes during 2018.” There are a number of factors that make larger trucks particularly dangerous.
- Larger trucks take much longer to stop than smaller vehicles.
- Larger trucks have wider blind spots.
- Truck drivers often get dangerously fatigued during their routes.
Truck drivers must follow a number of regulations for the safety of the public. They are not allowed to work more than 11 hours over a 14 hour driving window. Truck drivers must take periodic breaks during their working hours. They are also held to a much higher standard in terms of what is considered “intoxicated.” A truck driver must not operate their rig with a BAC of 0.04% or higher. This compares to 0.08% for the general public.
Truck drivers must do everything in their power to avoid collisions. Many collisions are due to truck drivers that follow the lead vehicle too closely. There is simply no reason that a driver should ever rear-end another vehicle. Indeed, there is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that rear-ends another vehicle. In rare situations, rear-end collisions could be caused by faulty or poorly maintained brakes. If that is the case, the company responsible for maintaining the truck that rear-ended a vehicle could be held at fault. There are many steps that should be taken after a car accident.
- All vehicles involved should be examined.
- Surveillance footage should be sought.
- Medical records should be preserved.
- Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
If the victim of a car accident was working when they were injured, they may have legal recourse through California’s worker’s compensation system. They may also be able to seek aid through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, companies will often fight hard to deny liability for any accident. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal rights are.
