Liability In Dixon Truck Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, ” In 1913, only 1.3 million vehicles were registered, and 4,200 people died on the road. In 2020, 276 million vehicles were registered and 42,338 people died on the road.” Most accidents happen at intersections in urban areas. Collisions are more likely to occur in the early morning hours and late evening when visibility is reduced. In all, there are many factors that could contribute to a car accident.

  • Drivers are more likely to crash if they are fatigued. The CDC estimates that driving while fatigued can be just as dangerous as driving while intoxicated.
  • Drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicle while speeding.
  • Drivers are more likely to crash if they are following the lead vehicle too closely.

Truck drivers are held to a high standard in terms of safety. Depending on the classification of their vehicle, a truck driver may need to get a commercial license. Rear-end collisions are among the most common type of accident that occur on the road. They are also the most preventable. They nearly always happen when a driver is speeding, distracted or following the lead vehicle too closely. Very often, drivers fail to notice that traffic on the freeway is slowing down ahead of them before rear-ending the lead driver.

The Ford F-650 is considered a super heavy duty commercial truck. It is often used for business purposes. Depending on the facts of any case, a company could potentially be liable for a car accident. Companies are generally liable for the negligent actions of their employees – when those employees are working within the course of their job duties. Companies must also exercise a great deal of care in the hiring process to make sure that their drivers are able to legally and safely perform their duties. Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage
  • Soft tissue injuries

Many of the injuries associated with serious accidents are psychological and may not be readily apparent. The FMCSA requires most commercial trucks to carry between $750,000 – $5,000,000 worth of liability coverage. Any person that is injured in a truck accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
